Timothy R. Johnson practices in many areas including Business and Commercial Litigation, Products Liability, Healthcare Litigation, Construction Contracts and Litigation, Estate Planning and Probate, Real Estate and Contract Disputes, Insurance Defense, and Collections.
He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis as well as his bachelor's in business administration for finance. While at the UofM, he served as the Notes Editor for Law Review Editorial Board.
Mr. Johnson was admitted to the United States District Courts for Western District, Middle District; Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and all Tennessee State Courts. He is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and Memphis Bar Association (Technology Section Board Member, 2011-Present).
After receiving his law degree, Mr. Johnson served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Bailey Brown of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit from 1994 to 1995. He has over 19 years of trial and appellate experience with complex litigation in both state and federal courts.
As lead Counsel for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, he managed and supervised a team of lawyers in defense of over 1,000 cases in West Tennessee in the Nationwide Fen-Phen pharmaceutical litigation. He successfully defended MasterCard International Inc. and Shell Oil Co. in class action claims filed in Tennessee. He obtained defense jury verdict in federal court in defense of a Memphis police officer accused of excessive force. He successfully defended numerous physicians and medical institutions in medical malpractice claims, including UT Medical Group, Methodist Hospital, and Delta Medical Center. Mr. Johnson has served as lead counsel for Schindler Elevator Corporation in all products liability matters in Tennessee and Mississippi (Northern District) for over 10 years. He has obtained numerous successful arbitration awards, including for local homebuilder in a “bet the company” construction contract dispute. He obtained a panel award for David Clark Construction, including both contract damages and attorneys fees, against breaching homeowner (David Clark Construction v. McLendon). He obtained a successful trial verdict for landowner in survey/property boundary line dispute in Fayette County (See Anderson v. Stewart, Chancery Court, No.14871). He was a Keynote Speaker at Contract Law Seminar organized by, and presented for, the members of the Memphis Area Homebuilders Association, addressing the risks associated in residential construction contracts, and the need for careful contract drafting to mitigate those risks. And he has extensive insurance defense experience for such representative clients as State Farm and The Hartford.
